Gas Savings Drive Up Scooter Sales

Working a second job to keep pace with the high cost of gas, Terrence Hunter of South Bend, IN bought his first moped a few months ago. Getting 85 to 100 miles per gallon, the scooter costs him only $10 to $15 a week at the gas pump, quite a savings compared to the $50 he was spending to fill his truck.

"It goes through gas like it needs to be in AA," he said of his truck in an article in the South Bend Tribune. (Read the article at http://www.southbendtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060530/News01/60530023/CAT=News01.

"Everyone that comes through the door complains about it," said Ed Durrell, owner of Ed's Cycle in Mishawaka, IN where Hunter bought his moped. "People driving SUVs getting 12 miles to the gallon think that this is a pretty good investment."

Moped and scooter sales are keeping pace with the rising cost of gas. Most dealers have seen a 35% increase in sales over the past year. Dealers caution customers to educate themselves before purchasing a moped or scooter. A reputable and established dealer, Scootertronics can help you find the scooter that's right for your needs. We pride ourselves on providing the best customer service in the business and our customers agree:

Two- Wheelers Back in Style

Two-wheelers are back in style.

"Steep pump prices are driving some motorists to forms of transportation that sip or eschew gasoline, and many retailers of motorcycles, scooters and bicycles report that sales are revving up," reports Cynthia Cho for the Los Angeles Times (read her May 23 Business News article at http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-gasless23may23,1,112698.story?coll=la-headlines-business&track=crosspromo).

While most buyers aren't ready to sell their cars, they are choosing to garage them for commuting and short trips in favor of alternate modes of transportation. Scooters are the perfect choice. Faster and less sweat-intensive than bicycles, scooters are also lighter and more maneuverable than motorcycles.

Taking a second pass at transportation downshifting, Temecula, CA resident Jim Roberts is shopping for a scooter. Racking up 600 miles a week to commute to his job for Midwest Airlines, the 50-year-old senior account manager wanted to save money on gas. He gave up his Nissan Maxima for a Harley-Davidson Road King Classic but found the 750-pound motorcycle too heavy for everyday use. Now he's selling his bike in favor of a scooter.

"The high price of fuel is the fundamental reason behind his decision to pilot something more frugal at least a few days a week, Roberts said. The Vespa model he was eyeing has a 3.5-gallon gas tank and gets about 60 mpg, about 10 mpg more than his motorcycle gets," Cho reports.

With a wide variety of models to choose from and nationwide sales and service, Scootertronics is the perfect source for your new two-wheeler. Visit us at http://www.scootertronics.com.

80 MPG. Any Questions?

It's the head-turning "WOW" factor that makes scooter riders grin behind their helmets. But it's the extra jingle in their pockets that keeps them smiling. At an average 80 mpg and $100 per year to insure, riding a scooter costs only pennies a day.

"Everyone at work was excited when I bought it," said Josh Bailey, a 29-year-old White Rock-area resident who sold his car last year and purchased a scooter to drive to work. "And I get great parking, right up beside the door," quotes Katie Menzer of The Dallas Morning News in a May 23 article on DallasNews.com.

In 2001 approximately 50,000 scooters were sold in the U.S. according to the Motorcycle Industry Council. In just four years that figure has doubled with 113,000 sold last year. Fuel savings is driving the market, but scooter owners also realize significant savings in maintenance, insurance, licensing, and parking costs compared to cars.

"I got it to save on gas, but it is really fun," said Nancy Rodriquez of Plano, Texas. A sign on the back of her scooter reads, "80 MPG. Any Questions?"

33% Americans Ready To Trade Car For Scooter

Nearly one-third of American consumers “would be extremely or somewhat likely to consider using a motor scooter for their everyday transportation needs,” leads off a May 22, 2006 article on PRNewswire. Participants in the May survey “indicted a willingness to transfer 35% of their weekly mileage to a scooter.” While soaring gas prices was the strongest motivating factor, the survey found that “33% of Americans would be likely to use a scooter to reduce emission harmful to the environment, 35% would be likely to use a scooter to save $25.00 a week on gasoline.”

“By comparing the results of the survey to Department of Energy national averages for fuel consumption and emissions, the findings establish that if Americans were to utilize one of the latest eco-friendly scooters available in the market today, they could, in aggregate, reduce national fuel consumption by 14 million gallons of gasoline per day and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 324 million lbs. per day.” Read the entire article at http://sev.prnewswire.com/auto/20060522/NYM18122052006-1.html.

Long recognized in Europe and Asia as a smart mode of personal transportation, scooters are becoming increasingly popular in America with dealers expecting record sales this summer. Visit our website at http://www.scootertronics.com to see how Scootertronics can put you in the driver’s seat.

Who's Riding and Why May Surprise You

Sold on the maneuverability and ease of parking, not to mention the considerable fuel savings, more people are choosing scooters as their preferred mode of transportation. In San Diego where the mayor’s wife rides a candy-apple red Kymco, scooter sales have jumped 300% since 2000, according to Jen Dreis of the Motorcycle Industry Council. Padres fans seeking a quick way to maneuver through downtown traffic and avoid parking hassles on game days have created a niche market for Alex Cohn, owner of Motorsport Scooters in North Park.

“The average scooter buyer is about 46 years old and makes roughly $50,000 a year, according to MIC numbers,” states Kelly Davis in “Scoot Over, San Diego,” a fascinating article from the May 10, 2005 edition of San Diego CityBEAT. (Read the entire article at http://www.sdcitybeat.com/article.php?id=4357.)
After Word War II, Enrico Piaggio was looking for a way to turn aircraft parts from the family’s bombed out factory into cheap ground transportation. CityBEAT tells the story: “The war was over, there was no point in trying to rebuild the factory, and people with little spending money needed a way to get around heavily damaged roads. One of Piaggio’s engineers borrowed some ideas from airplane design and came up with what Enrico Piaggio said looked like una vespa—a wasp.”

Long popular in the crowded cities of Europe and Asia where $7 per gallon pump prices are the norm. Americans are starting to tune into the “green” benefits of scootering. According to Paolo Timoni, CEO of Piaggio USA, “motor scooters are far more fuel-efficient and emit 90 percent less carbon monoxide and 80 percent less carbon dioxide than automobiles.” Averaging 80 miles per gallon, scooters easily breeze past cars at 22 to 25 miles per gallon and leave Hummers, typically only 9 miles per gallon, gasping in the dust.

“But for Max Stromberger, who works for Cohn at Motorsport Scooters,” notes Davis for CityBEAT, “there’s something infectious about owning a scooter. People will smile or wave or ask about fuel efficiency, a topic Stromberger is happy to discuss. 'There’s no amount of stress that a 20-block ride home can’t cure,' he said.”

At Scootertronics we can help you find your ultimate stress reliever. Check out our website at http://www.scootertronics.com to see the latest models and find out more about the convenience, affordability, economy, and just plain FUN of being a scooter owner.

Scooters Are The Perfect Graduation Gift

Thinking of getting your graduate a car for college? Think scooters instead. Why saddle your son or daughter with a gas guzzler when you could both be saving with a sleek, new scooter instead?

“I’m laughing all they way to the bank,” says University of Georgia senior Kelly Choate in an April 11, 2006 article by Thomas Marine on redandblack.com, the University of Georgia student newspaper (http://www.redandblack.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2006/04/11/443b1c530e359).

Cash-strapped college students were among the first to recognize the financial advantages of scooters over cars. Savings at the pump are only part of the appeal. Lower parking fees on campus and less expensive insurance, registration and licensing fees are additional bonuses.

While the green benefits are the first draw for many savvy students, it’s the fun factor that clinches the deal. “Scooters provide their own sort of style,” says Choate. At Scootertronics we have the selection to allow your graduate to make a statement without emptying your pockets.

Scooters are Eco-Friendly

Higher gasoline prices have boosted sales of motorcycles and scooters according to Chris Geiger, salesman/floor manager at State 8 Motorcycle & ATV in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, as reported in the April 21, 2006, online edition of the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal (http://www.ohio.com/mld/beaconjournal/14394737.htm).

"A lot of people who weren't riding are thinking about it now,'' Geiger said. "It used to be middle-aged guys and girls. Now, it's pretty much everybody.''

A fun, practical and eco-friendly way of getting around, savings at the gas pump are driving a booming scooter market across the country.

"The savings are phenomenal. The scooter pays for itself in the amount of gas you save," said Judy Spicer, manager Vespa of Edwardsville (Illinois), in a May 7, 2006 article from the Edwardsville Intelligencer (http://www.goedwardsville.com).
With small scooters getting 60 to 80 miles per gallon on regular unleaded gas, scooters are extremely eco-friendly. Vernon Carver, owner of Vespa of Edwardsville, notes:
“According to the Vespa company, if Americans were to utilize one of the latest eco-friendly motor scooters available in the market today, they would, on average, reduce their fuel consumption by 58 percent, emission of carbon monoxide by 90 percent and emission of carbon dioxide by 80 percent.”

Scooters Save Gas

Gas prices pushed past the $3 mark in California and New York last week and are expected to climb to $4 across the country over the summer. More people are garaging their cars and turning to scooters as a viable money and energy-saving alternative. Dave Balut of Tampa Bay (Florida) 10 News reports a 30% increase in scooter sales over last year in the St. Petersburg area. At Scootertronics we've seen a similar increase.

Small scooters with cruising speeds of around 45 mph are the perfect choice for commuters. Balut talked to scooter commuter Bob Goeble who says he spends just $2 a week on gas since purchasing his scooter.

“I used to drive a large SUV and we’ve put that in the garage and use it only for vacations, and I probably save about 600 dollars a year. ”

See what else Balut has to say at http://www.tampabays10.com/news/local/article.aspx?storyid=29882.

Scooter Rides 2006

My Vento Rebellion

New 150 CE Chrome Edition

Whats amazing is the weather for ridding lately has been great. I am sure all owners have broken out the scoots and had a ride or two by now. Well I get my Yas Yas out every morning about 745am when I roll down my front yard out on the street facing the Potomac river and cruise to Waldorf to the office where I actually do my best work getting everyone their new scoots and help others with their old ones. Of course I can no longer handle the phones by myself so I look to my new prospects to help me with the many calls we get. Scootertronics is planning new things for 2006 like our testing of new Avanti 150s and are looking for a few customers willing to help out with this venture. Some close to us in surrounding states would be great. Looks like our DR Pully test with 150s went well with the correct weights working well 18X14 14 grams, 18X14  8grams for 150s and 16X13 with both 6.5 grams and 5.5 grams working the best for 50cc and in stock. We feel by adding MRP products like DR Pulley variator and roller weights plus an iridium plug from NGK you just get a better performing scooter that gets results each time you ride. Just like high performance parts fro a classic car just make it look sound and feel better same foe your scooter.

Look for guest bloggers from scooted and Geely board soon here at Scootertronics.

Now on the new Chrome Strada 150CTE this is one slamming scooter. I thought the RX200 was the bomb but with digital dash gas shocks and front and rear disc brakes it gives Vento and Avanti a run for the money for sure and has many eyes popping. The ride is smooth but still working in the top speed with only 76 miles on this baby we know went around 150 but I am going to go with 58 as top speed. This is aligned with most 150s using the 157 engine. Only the Avanti uses the Linhai Yamaha engine which will make it a tad faster and more powerful. We have the new Avanti 150in stock now with the rest in the water.

Gas Sipping Scooters

Scooters will save you big money on gas.  Gas sipping scooters will get 60 to 80 miles per gallon versus the gas guzzling SUVs and typical cars on the road that range in gas mileage from 16 miles per gallon to 30 miles per gallon (in the smallest and most efficient cars).

This article from the Beacon Journal highlights how some people are saving money on gas by scooter commuting, using public transportation, and  even riding bicycles.  With gas approaching $3 per gallon and due to rise even more this summer, a scooter never looked better.

If you want to save on gas, a scooter is a great choice as not only is it extremely cost efficient when it comes to gas, but it is just plain fun to ride.  Saving money never got so good!

You'll find a wide selection of scooters that you can check out on our website www.Scootertronics.com.  I think that you'll be amazed at the unique styling, fashion, and power that a scooter can deliver.  Scooter commuting is all the rage and now with gas prices out of this world, they are more popular than ever.
