Female Team Wins First Aussie Scooterthon

"What's it take to win a 24-hour Scooterthon? About 213 gazillion cans of Red Bull and an ability to really cook it around the corners," according to Austrailian scooter enthusiast Carole Draper in an article in the Craigieburn Star. Draper and her all female team, Netrider, blitzed the field in the 24-hour marathon race at the South Morang Grand Prix Training Centre in Craigieburn, Australia last week. Sixteen scooter teams participated in the first time event. (For details on the race, click the link.)

While not exactly the Indianapolis 500, the 831 km IXON Le Minz 24-Hour Scooterthon paid tribute to the growing popularity of scooters in Australia. "Scooter sales have increased by 400% over the past 3 years and more and more Austrailians are turning to the form of transport as fuel prices continue to reach new heights," said Mark Petersen, event manager.

An increasing number of Americans have also embraced scooters as a fun, cheap mode of transportation. Scooter sales in America have skyrocketed this summer as fuel prices climbed past the $3 per gallon mark. Scootertronics carries a full line of gas-powered and electric scooters. Visit our website or stop by our Sykesville, Maryland showroom to check out the latest styles. Scooters are easy and fun to ride. While we haven't heard of them joining the race circuit, who knows what the future holds? Maybe next year we'll follow the lead of our friends Down Under and hold the first ever U.S. Scooterthon!

Scooters Let Gran & Gramps Keep Up With the Family

They drew my eye as they paraded down the street. Gramps led the way at a sedate pace on his cherry red scooter. Then came Dad on his bike followed by 2 kids on their 20-inchers, pink streamers flying from the little girl's handlebars. Bringing up the rear was junior, pumping furiously to keep up, occasionally rocking from side to side as the training wheels caught the pavement. Mom was right alongside keeping an eye on him. And Gram, slowly wheeling along on her flashy yellow scooter, signaled the end of the parade.

I caught up with them at the park. They'd always been a cycling family. They enjoyed the outdoors, the exercise, the fun, and being together. When Gran and Gramps got to the creaky knee phase of life they just weren't able to put the pedal to the metal anymore. Unwilling to miss the fun, they invested in a pair of inexpensive scooters. Gran said her scooter is perfect for errands around town or buzzing over to the grandkids' house to babysit. Gramps cruises over to the quickmart for a paper every morning and up to the school in the late afternoon to cheer for his grandson's Little League team. But the real reason they bought their scooters was to be part of the Sunday afternoon ride again. Sometimes they ride to the park or the library or the river to feed the ducks. Gramps always makes sure their route takes them past the Dairy Queen. Their cycling days may be over, but with their new scooters Gran and Gramps will be part of the weekly Sunday ride for years to come.

Whether you're looking for a light-weight scooter to run quick errands and keep up with the family or a gas-sipping, highway-ready commuter special, Scootertronics has the scooter for you at a price you can afford. Fall Scooter Sales Remain Strong

Escalating summer gas prices created a huge demand for gas-sipping scooters. In America, scooters are usually viewed as fun, summer transportation, good weather vehicles. This year though fall sales remain strong due largely to higher pump prices.

"People have been coming in and saying gas prices are getting so high (scooters) are going to be their only transportation until winter," said Brian Staack of Staack's Motorsports in Butte, Montana in an article in the Billings Gazette. Of course, in Montana they measure winter snows in feet, not inches. In most parts of America, roads are clear enough to safely keep on scooting all through the winter.

Staack's scooter sales this summer alone were double his entire sales for 2005. "I've sold a couple hundred since opening," he said. "I've always been doing good in them, but I couldn't believe how many people came in and are just buyiing them." Staack said he's sold at least one a day all summer. Nationwide, motorcycle and scooter sales jumped 8% this summer according to the Motorcycle Industry Council.

The scooter industry "just seems to be blossoming," said Margie Hicklin-Krsul, owner of Red Line Sports in Butte, Montana. "Usually we sell 5 or 6 scooters a year," she said. "This year we were sold out by the end of July." She's seen a greater variety of customers this year too. "One lady has a paper route and that's how she's delivering her papers, on a scooter. Put a basket on and she's ready to go."

Easy to maneuver, cheap to park, scooters make the perfect commuter vehicle. Scootertronics carries a full line of gas-powered and electric scooters to suit every need and taste. Visit our website or come into our Sykesville, Maryland showroom to check out the latest models. The fun doesn't have to stop when summer ends. You can keep on scooting into fall and all through the winter. Visit Scootertronics today and start scooting!

End of Summer

 End of Summer

Parts

Buying a scooter online

With the end of summer one expects sales to slow down alittle which it has and now the commuter sales kick in for those fighting high gas prices. 2006 has been a great year for scooters. With more and more people looking for ways to cut gas cost they are turning to scooters.

Scootertronics offers shipping of a scooter to all 50 states as well as local pick up from our retail location. With a full time mechanic and parts inventory it has become easier for our customers to get parts and service not only locally but able to order parts and get tech help by phone and email.

With our new shop we have broke into other scooters such as the Yamaha Zuma which uses the same engine as the Strada RX8 so upgrades have come easy for us using MRP High Performance parts. We have added high performance parts for all two stroke scooter not just the chinese clones.

 Parts

Parts have been a big issue for Scootertronics in 2006 for customers only seeking parts. Since we mainly stock parts for the models we carry it has been an uphill battle to fill the demand for parts on models we do not carry. Basically we have all engine parts but when it comes to panels we are only able to supply panels for scooter models we sell. We have recently added Chrome 150cc parts for the 157QMJ emgine. This will give scooter owners to add some bling to the 150s.

Buying a scooter online

When buying a scooter online its best to buy from a dealer that not only sells online but locally also with a repair shop. Most of the online store do not have a shop or tech to give any help at all. Scootertronics has both. By repairing what we sell we have learned what goes wrong and what could go wrong. We are able to make sure our upgrades really do work and boy do they. we slapped a pipe on a RX8 and what a difference, more power plus top end.

Some of the other things to consider is how fast do you need to go and how much ridding you will do. There are models of 49cc that will do the job and for go the motorcycle license a 150 requires. Scootertronics carrys four models that fit in the 45mph speed range for 49cc. If you need 50mph with traffic than a 150 is called for and is a must for a motorcycle license. All use the same engine so its down to looks and support. Also price always matters but the cheapest will always be missing something and its easy to tell. Most online sites that are the best bet will be the ones with a retail location and a dealers license. MCO should not be a problem or cost anything. A toll free number says they are reputable. A professional website is a must but does not say much if no phone number or nobody answers. So beware of the dealer who works from home and takes longer than 7 business days to deliver.
