Female Team Wins First Aussie Scooterthon
"What's it take to win a 24-hour Scooterthon? About 213 gazillion cans of Red Bull and an ability to really cook it around the corners," according to Austrailian scooter enthusiast Carole Draper in an article in the Craigieburn Star. Draper and her all female team, Netrider, blitzed the field in the 24-hour marathon race at the South Morang Grand Prix Training Centre in Craigieburn, Australia last week. While not exactly the Indianapolis 500, the 831 km IXON Le Minz 24-Hour Scooterthon paid tribute to the growing popularity of scooters in Australia. "Scooter sales have increased by 400% over the past 3 years and more and more Austrailians are turning to the form of transport as fuel prices continue to reach new heights," said Mark Petersen, event manager.
An increasing number of Americans have also embraced scooters as a fun, cheap mode of transportation. Scooter sales in America have skyrocketed this summer as fuel prices climbed past the $3 per gallon mark. Scootertronics carries a full line of gas-powered and electric scooters.
