Scooters Put the Fun Back in Driving

Why do Americans love driving? A recent Pew Research Center poll revealed our love/hate affair with being on the road.

What we love:

  • 21% zen out during driving, finding it a relaxing time to be alone.
  • 19% enjoy the scenery and "getting away from it all."
  • 14% love the freedom and independence.

What we hate:

  • 23% loathe traffic and congestion.
  • 14% get annoyed with bad or rude drivers.
  • 3% said gas prices actually keep them off the road, while the rest of us bite the bullet out of necessity.

If you want to renew your love affair with America's highways and byways, buy a scooter. Zipping around on a scooter to run errands or commute to work puts the fun back in driving. Scooters are more nimble maneuvering in traffic and respond instantly to course corrections necessitated by rude rubes and highway hogs. For those who need a practical reason to buy a scooter, scooters get 60-100 mpg so you'll fill your tank for pennies; a compelling financial argument in these times of $3-$4 gas prices. But the main reason to hop on a scooter is fun. Put the joy back in your driving, buy a scooter and renew your love affair with America's roadways.

Scootertronics offers a full line of scooters for every taste from sleek and powerful capable of highway speeds up to 100 mph to smart and peppy for buzzing around the neighborhood. Visit our website today to check out our complete line of scooters. Rediscover the joy of driving, hop on a scooter today and buzz off into the sunset.

Stay Safe While Riding

Scooter safety is always on our mind at Scootertronics. Afterall, safe riders are return customers!

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) offers rider courses, books and videos promoting cycle rider safety. While prepared for motorcycles, the information applies to scooter riders as well. Follow these tips for safe riding:

  1. Always wear a helmet and protective clothing: gloves, boots or shoes that cover the ankles, long pants, and long-sleeved shirt or jacket.
  2. Practice in parking lots and on quiet streets (cemeteries are good) to hone your skills. Click the MSF link for information on rider courses offered around the country.
  3. Drive defensively. Be aware of the traffic around you. Keep a buffer zone between you and other vehicles to allow time to maneuver.
  4. Consult your local regulatory agencies for info on the licensing and operation of scooters in your area.

A skills test practice guide produced by the MSF is available online and can be downloaded from http://www.idahostar.org/guide/Default.htm. It has instructions for performing and practicing the most common riding skills as well as emergency maneuvers. Scootertronics carries a complete line of safety gear including helmets, jackets, and gloves. Click the link to our site at http://store.scootertronics.com/scac.html for all your scooter needs.

Scooters: A Guy's (Or Gal's) New Best Friend

As gas prices soar, scooters might just replace the puppy as a guy's (or gal's) best friend. Scooters are turning heads at the gas pump and the corner store. Conversations that used to start at the park over the antics of your four-legged ball of fur (and often end with a slobbering kiss -- his, not yours) are getting started in the parking lot without even putting leash in hand.

"The benefits of scooters are well-known around the globe, as they are part of the daily behavior for millions of peole worldwide," Paolo Timoni, President and CEO of Piaggio Group Americas is quoted as saying in an article in The Daily Oakland Press. (To read the article, go to: http://www.theoaklandpress.com/stories/060406/bus_2006060406.shtml.)

As U.S. gas prices climb closer to the $6 per gallon rate common in Europe, scooter owners are perceived as financially savy and green conscious. In a Piaggio Group survey, if Americans drove scooters, which average 50 to 80 mpg, "they could reduce national fuel consumption by 14 million gallons of gasoline per day and reduce carbon monoxide emissions by 324 million pounds per day."

In most cases, today's scooters are as powerful as motocycles, according to Patrick DeLonge, floor manager at Kensington Motorsports in New Hudson, Michigan. Scooters "generally don't require shifting and are built more for comfort, with wide seats, foot platforms and, often, windshields. Most have additional storage space under the seat with enough room for a couple of small bags of groceries or two full-size helmets."

With that kind of storage space, there's plenty of room for kibble and you can bring the puppy along too!

80 MPG. Any Questions?

It's the head-turning "WOW" factor that makes scooter riders grin behind their helmets. But it's the extra jingle in their pockets that keeps them smiling. At an average 80 mpg and $100 per year to insure, riding a scooter costs only pennies a day.

"Everyone at work was excited when I bought it," said Josh Bailey, a 29-year-old White Rock-area resident who sold his car last year and purchased a scooter to drive to work. "And I get great parking, right up beside the door," quotes Katie Menzer of The Dallas Morning News in a May 23 article on DallasNews.com.

In 2001 approximately 50,000 scooters were sold in the U.S. according to the Motorcycle Industry Council. In just four years that figure has doubled with 113,000 sold last year. Fuel savings is driving the market, but scooter owners also realize significant savings in maintenance, insurance, licensing, and parking costs compared to cars.

"I got it to save on gas, but it is really fun," said Nancy Rodriquez of Plano, Texas. A sign on the back of her scooter reads, "80 MPG. Any Questions?"

Scooters Are The Perfect Graduation Gift

Thinking of getting your graduate a car for college? Think scooters instead. Why saddle your son or daughter with a gas guzzler when you could both be saving with a sleek, new scooter instead?

“I’m laughing all they way to the bank,” says University of Georgia senior Kelly Choate in an April 11, 2006 article by Thomas Marine on redandblack.com, the University of Georgia student newspaper (http://www.redandblack.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2006/04/11/443b1c530e359).

Cash-strapped college students were among the first to recognize the financial advantages of scooters over cars. Savings at the pump are only part of the appeal. Lower parking fees on campus and less expensive insurance, registration and licensing fees are additional bonuses.

While the green benefits are the first draw for many savvy students, it’s the fun factor that clinches the deal. “Scooters provide their own sort of style,” says Choate. At Scootertronics we have the selection to allow your graduate to make a statement without emptying your pockets.

Gas Sipping Scooters

Scooters will save you big money on gas.  Gas sipping scooters will get 60 to 80 miles per gallon versus the gas guzzling SUVs and typical cars on the road that range in gas mileage from 16 miles per gallon to 30 miles per gallon (in the smallest and most efficient cars).

This article from the Beacon Journal highlights how some people are saving money on gas by scooter commuting, using public transportation, and  even riding bicycles.  With gas approaching $3 per gallon and due to rise even more this summer, a scooter never looked better.

If you want to save on gas, a scooter is a great choice as not only is it extremely cost efficient when it comes to gas, but it is just plain fun to ride.  Saving money never got so good!

You'll find a wide selection of scooters that you can check out on our website www.Scootertronics.com.  I think that you'll be amazed at the unique styling, fashion, and power that a scooter can deliver.  Scooter commuting is all the rage and now with gas prices out of this world, they are more popular than ever.
